Tending the garden

I’m not much of a gardener but I do love gardening. Any outdoors pursuit gets my vote for lots of wonderful reasons, however, we feel rather dissatisfied with our garden. It doesn’t quite work for us so we’ve decided to bring in a specialist to help us to redesign it. We’ve yet to work out whether that means going back to a blank canvas or keeping some elements and working around them.

The old adage of throwing the baby out with the bathwater springs to mind. When you’re talking gardens, of course, some of the trees and plants have taken years to grow and mature so these are big decisions. Furthermore, acers and other plants don’t always survive being moved – so many considerations.

It’s made me think that this isn’t unlike a coaching programme: I help my clients to work out what is and isn’t working, what they can and can’t live with, what is and isn’t worth keeping in their armoury; I help them to identify what their end point or objective is; I encourage them to develop ways of dealing with the issues with that end point in mind and then to figure out how to reach it.

I can’t help with your garden but if you want to chat about career decisions, work issues, team or people challenges then do give me a call.
