Time to think

Amidst all the hecticness that comes with December and Christmas preparations, I find solace in the beacon of time off, which, for me, means time to think. In our busy lives, we rarely give ourselves this grace – I was going to call it a luxury but it shouldn’t be, we deserve to take a step back occasionally and assess what’s going on in our lives, work, relationships, everything.

This is what coaching does for people, it allows them to step away from the madness, from the relentless day-to-day and focus on themselves for an hour. It allows them to think deeply about whether they’re going in the direction that will really serve them.

“Time to Think” is the title of one of the best non-fiction books I have ever read. To give it its full title, “Time to Think: Listening to Ignite the Human Mind” – Nancy Kline is an expert in helping people to truly listen, to listen at all levels, not just to hear another person so that you can come in with a great answer or your ideas. Listening to allow the other person to find something better, to ignite their ideas and opportunities.

If you’re looking for some reading matter this Christmas, I heartily recommend this book. And if you want to be listened to so that you can work out your direction this Christmas, then do bear me in mind.

Happy Christmas.
